Come and experience the Kitesports way of life at our store, and during our activities like our Kitesurfaris. Our professional staff is willing and waiting to make your kite experience an unforgettable one! December 2011 we went exploring the South African West Coast with a small group of friends, Marten Bjornsson & Arild Kristiansen, both from Sweden. Marten and I have been kiting in Cape Town for about 10 years now but we still every now and then are able to discover some new spots along our 400 km stretch of coastline. The trip has been documented by Arild with 7 short movies showing different spots along the West Coast. The feedback on the movies Arild has put together has been great and made me realise that this is every kiter’s dream: Chasing wind & Waves, great Adventure, and good conditions at mostly uncrowded spots, Kitesports KITESURFARIS was born! What is Kitesurfaris all about: On any given day of the year it’s summer somewhere in the world.... but from October till April that’s in Cape Town!! In search of the perfect wave, adventures and loads of wind, Kitesports Kitesurfaris is your one stop for Kite Adventures both for Freestyle Clinics as well as Waveriding Clinics. Cape Town has some world-class wavespots, some of which you will know from videos and magazines but there are a lot more spots that luckily haven’t been discovered by the masses yet. This is your chance to get off the beaten track and kite at some great spots. The versatility when it comes to the different spots is enormous, and when you know which of the spots are working, and when, then you can score great waves! The best freestylers in the world come to Cape Town to train and prepare for the new competition season. There are some great flat water spots perfect for practising your moves. 5x PKRA World Champion Aaron Hadlow will be working with us to run Expert Freestyle Clinics! What we do: Daily meeting point is the Kitesports store at Eden on the Bay. From here we load up the gear into the trailer, jump in the van, and leave for the best spot that day. During the trip you can sit back and enjoy the landscape, or watch a DVD in the bus and relax. The first day we will go out kiting and we will assess each rider’s level and determine which skills need to be focused on, and what conditions are appropriate for your skill level. We create a set of goals for the week for you, and continually evaluate the objective to push you to progress at a comfortable pace. We provide you with all the background information and necessary theoretical understanding that will create the foundation of your future waveriding/freestyling skills. We then go through some exercises and training on land to implement certain movement patterns that you will need to apply on the water. All this is destined to speed up your learning progress. The Clinics are for experienced riders who can stay upwind on a twin-tip, and have experience riding in 15+ knots wind, and can easily re-launch their kite. The Clinics are in small groups - max 8 persons - which allows for a lot of 1:1 time. The radio-coaching has proven to be a very effective tool to give you tips while you are riding. The next key element is then to use video coaching techniques to monitor your progress in order to show you exactly where and how you still need to work on your technique. |
