Bruce Mackenzie Kiting Nananu-i-Ra, Fiji

After 4 months of not kiting after a horrible experience in Sydney, Australia and having no lines and bar, I eventually get it together. Having lived in Fiji now for almost 3 months, I plan a trip to the main kiting destination in Fiji on the Island of Nananu-i-Ra.

Bruce Mackenzie Time to Kite

Well its been almost 4 months since I last kited. 2 of which I have been living in Fiji and unable to get into the water. The case of a small accident and then not having a bar and lines has been really bad. Many a day have I been on the beach in Natandola and watched the perfect conditions with no one out.

That time is over. This weekend i am heading off to an Island called Nananu-i-Ra. A 2 hour drive from Lautoka whereI live up to the north of the main island Viti Levu, then

Bruce Mackenzie In Fiji they dont like Rugby, they love it.

So in SA, we are kind of rugby mad. We have some of the most amazing fields, clubs, equipment and sponsorship money making us the two times world champions. One thing we lack is the absolute passion for the game. Here’s why… One of the brands that we have called Body Guard, an antib… Continue

Bruce Mackenzie The Capital City - Suva

I wake up on Monday morning a couple of weeks back and drag myself out of bed. It is the 4th of January, my birthday and the start of a serious week of work. I had planned a business trip to the capital to go out with the reps into the trade to learn more about the market place so that I can get going with my product and market development job.… Continue

Bruce Mackenzie I feel like a local …

Bula So a bit of time has passed since I last wrote which means one of two things. Either I have been too busy at work or I have been having too much of a good time. Actually in Fiji you can do both. New years eve was really good. Started off at The Club and had a few too many Fiji Bitters. At $2.10 and in this heat, you cant help it. Obviously as you consume more, the less you really worry about the next day and the consequences of your, well your actions.… Continue

Dean Bottcher One of our own - Grant Oliver

Some of you may remember Grant Oliver from back in the day (late 1990's) when he single handedly missioned into Mozambique with his kite buggy. Since then the story of that trip has become urban legend and he became a phantom. Well as you can see below Grant is very much alive, well and from recent conversations with him the urban legends are all true. For those of you from a sand ski and buggy background this new trip and his past achievements will mean a lot. As for water kiting and the Bay to… Continue

Steve Great Lessons with Brad

For a long time I have been interested in Kiteboarding and was looking for an opportunity to get entry into the sport. I had heard about the advantages of taking lessons but never got to setting anything up. I got in touch with Brad Heath and set up for a 4hr lesson with a friend of mine. The experience was great! Brad really went the extra mile for us and made it an altogether awesome and fruitful experience. I would recommend lessons to anyone out there like myself, interested in the sport bu… Continue

Bruce Mackenzie Christmas - No worries

So on Christmas eve there is only one thing to do on the Island of Fiji if you are hanging for an Ice Cold Fiji Bitter ... yes, you go to the Ice Bar and then to Eds. Before you head off, you already know that it’s going to be a long night. As I am still waiting to take delivery of my new car, I have to head on in by taxi as Lautoka is about 25km from Nadi, Nadi being the tourist centre and party town. I learned a valuable lesson the other day about making sure that when you catch the normal tax… Continue

Bruce Mackenzie Hey Ho hey ho, it's off to work I go.

Bula from Fiji and Peace. It is Christmas day here. I am going to have some egg on toast soon for my Christmas lunch. Its really sunny and hot outside but still, I cannot kitesurf yet. Oh my F#%ck, I am here to work! The three month semi holiday, job searching escapade is over and now I must get down to some serious work. Oh yeah, I need tin and an empty bank account can’t even buy bubble gum.… Continue

Bruce Mackenzie Fiji is a melting pot

So I climb onto a Pacific Airways 747 to head across the Southern Pacific to the Country of Fiji. We fly into Nadi on the West Coast of the Island Viti Levu. The location of the airport in Nadi and not in the Capital which is Suva is purely because of tourism and access from Nadi to the resort islands. The flight is 4 hours and with Fiji being just about on the date line, I lose two hours of the day.
