Dont ever kitesurf in a spot that is 10m from the road

Two weeks ago I was kiting at Long Reef and I hear a voice, "Hey, is that you, Bruce Mackenzie". there stands Peter O'Brien, a guy that used to kite with us all at La Mercy Lagoon. We have a charlie chat and swap notes and decide we are going to go and kite together the next weekend.

At last Sunday comes along. No shit, it is 42 degrees with a hot "berg like" wind blowing from the North West. The only place to kite in this direction is at a place called Kurnell on Botany Bay, the… Continue

La Mercy Lagoon "Breaks its Banks"

The La Mercy Lagoon broke its banks on Saturday morning. Apparently the sight was amazing and the entire lagoon was emptied within a hour.

Some of the local kids had a field day collecting fish by the bag full.…

Paradise here I come

So imagine moving over to Oz in October and not finding a job yet. Thats a whole lot of stress. Anyway, maybe thats not all so bad right now because I am going to paradise.

I have been offered a Marketing Manager role in Fiji ... yes Fiji. I am going over there in the first week of December and will probably start my new job in January. I will be living in a place called Lautoka, on the main island of Viti Levu. A short boat trip across to some of the most epic surf spots in the… Continue

Flexifoil Ion Four Review

Tried the Flexifoil Ion 4 yet?? If not, you don’t know what you are missing, the kite is simply awesome. The Ion 4 comes with a whack of features, hybrid de-power with C kite pull, 6 strut design keeping the centre of the kite clean, this offers easy up-wind ability and massive life. With the huge success of the Ion 3, we thought that it would be extremely hard to beat. Well the Ion 4 has just stepped up kite design by leaps and bounds.…

Sterkfontein Dam November 09

The drive from Durban is approximately 300km, the drive is great as its really scenic and the 300km passed by in no time at all.

Thinking I would be the first to arrive at the dam on Friday, but the other guys beat me to it, and had already been out and enjoying the perfect 18 to 20kts. As I got down to the dam I was really surprised to see the guys kiting in baggies, I thought the water would still be… Continue

Great weekend of sun, wind and excellent kiting

So at last Sydney has proven itself as a place to kitesurf. Saturday, 12 - 18 knots NE, Sunday 20 - 25 knots NE. Hopefully I dont have to wait another 3 weeks again. Accoring to the locals, most days will be like this from about 3pm until sunset every day. I love the thought.

On Saturday I kited at a place called Dolls Point on Botany Bay, which is part of the main Sydney Container ship harbour. You have to understand, it is not like Durbans harbour, this is a massive waterway that… Continue
